Our avionics shop has a rich history dating back to the late 60’s when Air North/Northern airways formed the shop for support of its commuter airline and air charter operations as well as a general aviation service facility. Avionics Manager Tom MacArthur’s father, Everett MacArthur, was the original shop manager. Tom started as an apprentice in the spring of 1978 and has remained with the shop through three ownership changes (Innotech Aviation 1986 to 1989, Daystar Avionics 1989 to 1999 and Heritage Aviation 1999 to Present). Senior avionics Technician Duane Fowler started at Northern Airways in 1976. Technician Dan Fantoni has over 10 years of experience including Avionics Installation Lead at the Sikorsky Helicopter factory. The shop is locally renowned for its superior quality new equipment installation work and ability to solve the most difficult avionics system problems.
In recent years the shop has also joined the maintenance team in expansion of our service capabilities to a wide variety of mid-size jet aircraft. This unique partnership has resulted in an excellent ability to diagnose and solve increasingly complex airframe electrical system issues.
Recent shop highlights include; first installations of the Avidyne TAS600 traffic system in Enstrom 280FX and 480B airframes, completion of the first G500H system installation in a Bell 407 following the initial Bell/Garmin STC aircraft and G500H system installation in a Bell 206B3. Fixed-wing projects have included a full Garmin panel-mount package in a Cessna 550 Citation and Garmin G600 system plus full panel refurbishment in a Beech 58P Baron.
